The agenda is posted for tomorrow evening’s Town Council meeting, and there are two big items on the agenda: Park West’s Cambridge Square project and a resolution against offshore oil drilling and seismic testing. If you’d like to share your thoughts on these issues with Town Council, please attend the meeting and sign up to speak, or you can email them at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The residents of Park West have been led to believe for years that the land surrounding their main traffic circle would be developed as a quaint commercial town center called “Cambridge Square.” Now, however, the developer has run out of buildable land within Park West and wants to cram over 300 residential units around the traffic circle. Save Shem Creek stands with the residents of Park West who are almost unanimously against this plan.
While late to the party, Mount Pleasant can finally add its name to the long list of communities who have taken a stand against offshore oil thanks to the courage of Councilmen Chris Nickels and Chris O’Neal to get it on the agenda. Every Save Shem Creek board member believes this is a bad idea for the Lowcountry … just as the vast majority of our area’s residents do. Every coastal community of note in SC, except Myrtle Beach, has already passed a similar resolution, and the City of Columbia became the first inland community to do so last week.
