After 15 months of hearing the strong public sentiment against the project, Town Council voted unanimously to pull public funding from the proposed Shem Creek parking garage at the February 10th Council meeting. First, a big thank you to all of the citizens who showed up last night to demonstrate to Town Council how much you care about our Town! No doubt your presence helped bring about the unanimous vote!
However, as was made abundantly clear last night, the developer can still move forward with the project as designed if he so chooses. The only catch is that we now know the building encroaches 30 feet into the more restricted Marine District zoning area. We know it, the Town officials know it, and the public knows it. The question remains...are they going to do the right thing and fix it?
