Save Shem Creek Corp. is a nonprofit organization dedicated to protecting the iconic waterway that serves as the cultural heart of Mount Pleasant, SC. The organization believes that Town leaders should respect and adhere to established guidance documents put in place to safeguard the waterway, including the 2002 report "Preserving the Character of Shem Creek."
On a larger level, Save Shem Creek Corp. favors sensible growth and development that maintains the unique coastal character of Mount Pleasant. Emphasis is placed on traditional building design, modest scale, inviting streetscapes and promotion of the shrimping industry consistent with the Town's heritage. Save Shem Creek Corp. values transparency and active citizen involvement in municipal decision-making, the exchange of ideas without fear of retaliation, civil discourse, and the integrity of all participants as essential tools to maintain the health and welfare of the Town.
